- Sodium Laureth/Lauryl Sulfate (AKA SLS or SLES):Ever wonder why natural shampoos don’t lather or foam as much? It’s because they don’t have SLS/SLES!!! This is essentially the “lathering” or “foaming” agent in your product…is it necessary for actually cleaning your hair? NOPE! Plus, SLS is known to be a skin irritant (can cause redness & itching on the scalp).
- Propylene Glycol:This guy helps to moisturize the hair by allowing ingredients to penetrate the hair. Sounds amazing? Unfortunately, propylene glycol can also cause skin & eye irritation, & may even break down healthy hair proteins.
- Parabens: Most companies have removed this bad boy from ingredient lists, so you’re probably not going to see it lingering on any bottles, but if you do… stay away!Parabens are a preservative that can disrupt hormone levels & irritate your skin. No thanks!
